"Ruby-red. Very perfumed aromas of violet, peony, iris and dried herbs dominate blue fruit notes. The clean and fresh flavors are similar to the aromas, and the noteworthy acidity extends these flavors on the back end but also makes the tannins stick out more. Finishes with good inner-mouth perfume and length but leaves an impression of being fruit-challenged. Maybe a few more years of cellaring will help this fill out. The southeast-facing vines are 35 years old and grow in the Pfersigberg grand cru , which has very different soils from those of the Hengst (for example, there is more calcaire). This wine is made with about 40% whole clusters and aged in 25% new oak. 13.5% alcohol. Drinking window: 2022-2030. 90+ points

At Albert Mann, the Barthelmé brothers are very attentive to picking grapes as fast as possible so as to avoid losing aromas and flavors to oxidative effects. For this reason, they employ one of the largest numbers of pickers in the region when harvest time arrives. The estate is also devoted to parcellar vinifications (winemaking plot by plot), mainly because of the very different times at which the many different grape varieties ripen in Alsace (a situation made that much more complex by the region’s myriad terroirs). At Albert Mann, the goal is to make elegant dry wines that make you want to drink while eating. Mann is celebrating 20 years of biodynamic agriculture in 2017."
