Alcohuaz Rhu 2012

Alcohuaz Rhu 2012

Availability: Out of stock

"The 2012 Rhu is the same blend as in 2011 – Syrah-based with some 18% Garnacha and 9% Petite Sirah. 2013 will change, and 2014 will change more, and the style will also go more in the direction of the current varietal wines of 2015, as this was a little riper and a more powerful style of wine that ages slowly. This fermented in lagar and matured in concrete eggs and 2,500-liter oak foudres for 20 months. It has notes of ash and iron and doesn't really show its age. The palate shows the strictness of the granite combined with the power of the year or the vinification of that era. 7,468 bottles were filled in October 2013. Drink: 2017-2022. 93 points

There is a new range of varietal wines with different names, one Garnacha, one Malbec and one Syrah for now, but there will be a Cariñena (already in the pipeline from 2015 to be released some seven years after the harvest). They have also planted Roussanne and Marsanne plus a little Touriga Nacional. They have also purchased some kvevri amphorae from Georgia."
