Alcohuaz Tococo 2015

Alcohuaz Tococo 2015

Availability: Out of stock

"There is a varietal Syrah called 2015 Tococo (the name of a local bird that features on the label) from vines at 1,788 meters altitude. It fermented in lagar trodden by foot and matured in untoasted 2,500-liter oak foudre for 23 months. The grapes are always picked extremely early in Elqui, the 16th of February. There are some floral aromas and hints of orange peel, a light spicy/smoky touch. The palate has a combination of power and elegance, but it doesn't really remind me of any other Syrah, like the imprint from the place is too strong even for a grape with such strong character. 1,385 bottles were filled in January 2017. Drink: 2017-2022. 92 points

There is a new range of varietal wines with different names, one Garnacha, one Malbec and one Syrah for now, but there will be a Cariñena (already in the pipeline from 2015 to be released some seven years after the harvest). They have also planted Roussanne and Marsanne plus a little Touriga Nacional. They have also purchased some kvevri amphorae from Georgia."
