Antoine Jobard Meursault Blagny Premier Cru 2016

Antoine Jobard Meursault Blagny Premier Cru 2016

Availability: Out of stock

"The 2016 Meursault Blagny 1er Cru has an understated bouquet at first that unwinds with subtle peppermint scents that complement the green apple and light kiwi fruit aromas. It feels delicate and never wants to grab your attention. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine line of acidity, one of Jobard's more saline wines in 2016, with very impressive control and density on the finish. You can feel this lingering in the mouth long after it has departed. Drink: 2020-2035. 91-93 points

Recently, I have been enjoying a couple of wines made by Antoine's father, François, including an impeccable 1993 Meursault Charmes that encapsulated everything great about white Burgundy. Antoine is now at the helm and had to cope with the onslaught of the 2016 vintage. "We lost 50% of the production," he explained, his hair a tad grayer than last year, no doubt partly due to the stress of the growing season. "We lost 40% in Saint-Aubin but only 10% to 20% for the Meursault Premier Crus. The most impacted was the Bourgogne Blanc. We started the harvest on 22 September. I like the vintage myself: it is fresh, classic in style." Like many other growers, Antoine had to play around with the blends, where traditionally three vineyards that might contribute to a cuvée might be reduced to one. You will find specific details within the notes themselves. Overall, I like the style of these wines—my pick is a detailed and tensile Meursault Les Tillets that punched above its village cru status."
