Borgo del Tiglio Studio di Bianco 2016

Borgo del Tiglio Studio di Bianco 2016

Availability: Out of stock

"The 2016 Collio Studio di Bianco is a carefully contemplated blend of 45% Friulano, 35% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Riesling (with 2,300 bottles produced). The wine is packaged in the dark green label reserved for Borgo del Tiglio's top-shelf expressions. This wine sees fruit sourced from the Ruttars vineyard with light gray calcareous marl soils, and most of the vines were planted before 1989 when this parcel was purchased. The grapes are harvested on the same day and pressed together. The resulting bouquet is extremely smooth and seamless with pear and peach aromas that transition directly to anise seed and a touch of diesel fuel. What stands out most is the structure, firmness and power of the wine (at 15% alcohol) that gives you the possibility of pairing this white wine as if it were a red, with roast chicken or a fatty fish dish. Drink: 2019-2028. 95 points

Looking over my scores, I can't help but notice how consistent they are across vintages and varieties. Results like these are hard to achieve, but not at Borgo del Tiglio. Nicola Manferrari and his family have been working tirelessly since the 1982 vintage to become a benchmark for winemaking in Friuli Venezia Giulia. I enjoyed a very special visit to the estate last fall, and what was scheduled as a quick winery tour soon become a memorable tasting experience with an extended retrospective of the estate's Merlot-based wine Rosso della Centa. I am proud to record my exciting findings here. By the way, the suggested tasting order for the green label (Selezione) white wines, in increasing order of intensity, is as follows: Ronco della Chiesa, Sauvignon Selezione, Studio di Bianco and Chardonny Selezione."
