De Martino Las Cruces 2016

De Martino Las Cruces 2016

Availability: Out of stock

"A Malbec-based blend, the 2016 Las Cruces Old Vines Field Blend shows more freshness in this cooler and very low-yielding vintage. It's named after a 2.8-hectare, dry-farmed vineyard in Cachapoal planted in 1957 on granitic soils, with a field blend of 75% Malbec and 25% Carmenere. It's only 13.1% alcohol and has notable acidity, and the oak is perfectly integrated after 19 months in 2,500-liter oak foudres. This is a little fresher and more herbal than the 2015, and it comes through as characterful, serious and quite marked by the Carmenere, especially in the spicy flavors. The tannins are very fine, and there is great balance on the palate. 3,960 bottles and 60 magnums were filled in December 2017. Drink: 2018-2024. 94 points

De Martino is one of the quality leaders from Chile, and they are still working in Itata, a project they started in 2011. And in 2017, they have a Chardonnay from Traiguén, in the Malleco Valley further south. Also in 2017, they started using more concrete vats and less stainless steel."
