"A blend of Mendoza and Clone 95, all wild-fermented in barrel with 15% new oak, the 2016 Chardonnay is a terrific effort. Struck flint and pencil shavings mark the nose, alongside toasted almonds, pineapple and melon notes. It's medium to full-bodied, with a silky texture and long, citrusy finish. It should age up to a decade. Drink: 2019-2025. 93 points

This partnership between the Sutherland and Healy families shows no sign of growing old or complacent, except perhaps the graying and thinning hair around the table. The wines are as good as ever—maybe even better, as the vines settle into their productive middle years. Still, Ivan Sutherland said, "The last two [vintages] have been challenging." It's worth noting, however, that because of the lower yields they carry, they were able to pick largely before the rains. In 2018, said Sutherland, "The little botrytis that was there, we dropped out because we hand pick." As a final aside, I should point out that the wines age magnificently, as evidenced by the 2006 Section 94 reviewed this issue. We also tasted the 2011 Chardonnay and 2012 Pinot Noir, which were also in fine condition. As they were very close to where previous reviews put them, I haven't re-reviewed them."
