"The 2012 Altimus is a Malbec-based blend from Cafayate with 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 21% Cabernet Franc fermented with indigenous yeasts in a combination of barriques, stainless steel tanks and oak vats where the wines aged for 12 months. The different wines are blended and matured for a further six months in barriques. It has minty notes, very balsamic, hinting on eucalyptus, with some herbal aromas and a full body and plenty of fine-grained tannins. Another powerful blend from Salta. 6,700 bottles were filled in December 2014. Drink: 2017-2020. 91 points

I tasted a number of bottles from El Esteco, the Salta operation from the Peñaflor group (Trapiche) at different locations and times. At the end I ended up tasting a very wide range, some large production wines and some hand-crafted ones from old vines nicely handled by the able hands of winemaker Alejandro Pepa and his team. There is a new line of wines produced with old vines with the year the vineyard was planted very prominently on the labels."
