Envinate Taganan Parcela Margalagua 2016

Envinate Taganan Parcela Margalagua 2016

Availability: Out of stock

"Unfortunately, the single-vineyard white from Taganana has not been produced in 2014, 2015 or 2016, but the red has, and I tasted the latest bottled vintage of it, the 2016 Táganan Parcela Margalagua. It might be closed and suffering a little from the bottling one week prior. Also, this is fermented with full clusters, and they keep some of the white grapes that are intermixed in the vineyard with the red grapes. It's subtle and very ashy-volcanic and with a sharp, pungent palate with deep flavors. The palate reveals superb precision and clarity, with salty minerality—not yet as expressive as the 2015 but with huge potential to develop in bottle. This could be even better than the 2015. It was bottled in October 2017. Drink: 2018-2026. 96+ points

There are a number of new wines from Envínate since the last time I tasted their range. Besides Taganana, they now also work in the Valle de la Orotava and Santiago del Teide zones of Tenerife. In Santiago del Teide, they started in 2015 with a red Benje. But the production of Benje has increased, and there is a white from there too. And, from 2016 onward, the wines are within the Ycoden Daute Isora appellation, since that is where the winery is located. In 2017, they will have some 35,000 to 40,000 bottles from there, half from each color, and there are some 20,000 in 2016."
