"The 2014 Barolo Riserva Lazzarito is a very pretty wine. In 2014, the Lazzarito has a bit less heft than normal, but that works to its advantage. The aromatics are classic Nebbiolo - rose petal, tar, cinnamon, blood orange and cherries in liqueur abound. Silky and gracious on the palate, the 2014 is vivid, exceptionally beautiful and so inviting. Readers will have a very hard time resisting it now. It's a superb effort in a very challenging vintage. Drinking window: 2022-2039. 94 points

This is a gorgeous set of wines from Sergio Germano, but that is not terribly surprising based on the wines I tasted from cask during my last visit. The 2016s saw a total of 40-50 days on the skins between fermentation and maceration. Aging generally takes place in medium-format oak. The one exception is the new Barolo Vignarionda, which is fermented with whole clusters. It sees two years in medium-format oak, but spends an additional year in bottle prior to being released. Lastly, Germano fans will note a restyling of the labels, which are now drawn by Sergio Germano's wife, Elena."
