"The 2015 Munjebel opens to a light garnet color with cloudy background veiling. The bouquet is simple and direct, with the earthy and slightly oxidized aromas you get with wines made according to this most natural production philosophy. Delicate tones of blue flower and forest berry give the wine freshness and forthcoming primary fruit. If you are familiar with Frank Cornelissen's very distinctive style, you will be very happy with this latest release. Some 9,800 bottles were produced in Frank's tiny cellars in Solicchiata. Drink: 2017-2022. 88+ points

This set of exciting releases represents a new chapter for renegade winemaker Frank Cornelissen. The most evident change in my mind are the corks—they went to a high-tech plastic closure. It may strike a contradictory chord with some for a natural winemaker to embrace such a technical product, but it must also be said that the minimal oxygen exchange is an important tool in his reductive winemaking techniques. In other news, the estate has now reached a whopping 19 hectares of vineyard with the recent acquisition of two additional hectares of old vines in both the Contrada Barbabecchi and Contrada Zaccino Pietre sites. Cornelissen did not make his rosé Sucucaru in 2015 because the fruit wasn't good enough to stand alone. Instead, it will be blended in the red base wine Contadino."
