"The 2012 Barolo Monvigliero is beautifully layered, silky and expressive in the glass. Like many 2012s, the Monvigliero gives the impression it will drink well relatively early, as the aromatics are a touch forward. The classic Monvigliero texture comes through nicely, while beams of tannin extend the finish. Here, too, the wine is a touch compact. The Alessandria wines have traditionally aged very well. It will be interesting to see how the 2012 Monvigliero fares. Drinking window: 2020-2037. 92 points

Fratelli Alessandria is one of Piedmont's under the radar jewels. The Alessandrias make compelling, classically-built wines from estate vineyards in Verduno and Monforte d'Alba. In 2012, the straight Barolo and the Gramolere are particularly of note. Best of all, the wines remain very reasonably priced by today's standards. Readers who enjoy structured, age-worthy Barolos won't want to be without these wines."
