"A deceptively medium-bodied wine, the 2012 Barolo San Lorenzo di Verduno hits the palate with good intensity but in the classic, mid-weight Alessandria style. Sweet tobacco, dried cherries, mint and tobacco give the wine much of its aromatic nuance. The 2012 opens up a bit in the glass, but it remains a touch lean and compact which is unusual for this wine. Drinking window: 2018-2032. 90 points

Fratelli Alessandria is one of Piedmont's under the radar jewels. The Alessandrias make compelling, classically-built wines from estate vineyards in Verduno and Monforte d'Alba. In 2012, the straight Barolo and the Gramolere are particularly of note. Best of all, the wines remain very reasonably priced by today's standards. Readers who enjoy structured, age-worthy Barolos won't want to be without these wines."

Antonio Galloni, Vinous (11/16)
