J.J. Prum Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese 2012

J.J. Prum Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese 2012

Availability: Out of stock

"Pale golden yellow. Rich, musky aromas of yellow plum and sweet herbs. Possesses good depth of rich tropical fruit, but is more noteworthy for its velvety texture and supple, pleasing style. Finishes with salty minerality and excellent persistence. 91 points.

Few producers have been as consistent over so many years as this world-famous estate in Wehlen. With more than 50 vintages under his belt, Manfred Prüm is not only the grand old man of the region, but also a source of inspiration for the current generation of winemakers. I was at first a little perplexed when I tasted the 2012s, but each has matured in textbook fashion. Of the 15 rieslings he presented, 12 garnered at least 91 points--and the "lowly" kabinett without even a vineyard designation is already better than the finest bottling from many neighboring estates. I still dream of the 2010s and 2005s, but this vintage will also write history.
