"Brilliant red. Aromas of spice-accented fresh red fruit, candied rose and smoky minerals on the fragrant nose. Silky and energetic in the mouth, offering juicy raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors that spread out slowly on the back half. Silky tannins shape the persistent, spice-tinged finish, which leaves a sappy red berry note behind. Drinking window: 2020-2026. 91 points

Co-proprietor Larry Stone and winemaker, University of Burgundy-educated Thomas Savre, walked me through an outstanding set of 2016s that prove that this new winery is already playing in the Pinot Noir big leagues. Savre earned his chops at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Domaine Dujac, among others. I found the 2016s to be extremely promising but still quite primary and in need of patience, ideally, or, at the very least, some decanting time to allow them to express themselves. Things here are definitely about to get even more interesting as the Lingua Franca estate vineyard continues to mature. The 66-acre plot lies behind the spacious and highly-efficient, no-nonsense winery and occupies one of the most prized locations of the Eola-Amity Hills, toward the east end of the AVA and abutting, to the west, the legendary Seven Springs Vineyard, which has long been regarded as one of the prime sites for Pinot Noir in the New World."
