  • Garnier Chablis Premier Cru Mont de Milieu 2020

    £44.95

“The 2020 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru certainly has one of the more austere aromatic profiles from this vineyard, though I like that. Reserved and a little “aloof”, you keep coming back tor more. The palate is well balanced with superb salinity, harmonious and poised, not a million miles away from Garnier’s Mont de Milieu with a very persistent and satisfying finish. Highly recommended. Tasted blind at the BlVB tasting in Chablis. Drinking window: 2023-2042. 94 points”

    Laurent Tribut Chablis 2020

    £25.95

“The 2020 Chablis Village offers up aromas of sweet orchard fruit, fresh bread, citrus oil and blanched almonds. Medium-bright and precise, with a fleshy core of fruit and a saline finish, it’s very promising. 90-92 points

Laurent Tribut’s three daughters—Solange, Adéline, and Gabriel—are well-ensconced at this important eight-hectare domaine; and their 2020s, which had just been racked to barrel after their fermentation in tank, bear all the hallmarks of a lovely vintage, somewhat reminiscent at this early stage of the Tributs’ 2017s. As I’ve written before, moderate yields, hand-harvesting at full maturity, fermentation in enameled steel and élevage in used wood on the lees are the rudiments of the approach here—an approach familiar to followers of the wines of Laurent Tribut’s brother-in-law, Vincent Dauvissat, in whose cellars Tribut’s wines were once produced. Farming is de facto organic but not certified as such. And none of that seems to have changed with the new generation at the helm.”

Droin Chablis Grand Cru Vaudesir 2018

    £49.99

“The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru is one of the most exotic, flamboyant wines in the range. Marzipan, candied lemon confit, passionfruit and honeyed notes add to an impression of deep, exotic beauty. The 2018 isn’t a shy wine, nor it is exactly subtle, but it is flat-out delicious and arresting in its beauty. Drink it with richer foods. 93-95 points

Benoît Droin showed me a stunning range of wines in both 2018 and 2017, culminating with a handful of library wines. I could have spent the whole day in these cellars. Over the last few years, Droin has emerged as one of the most exciting domaines in Chablis. The wines are marked by their energy, nuance and site-specific expression. As is the case in pretty much every cellar, the 2018s are open-knit and inviting, while the 2017s are more vibrant and nervy.”

    Antonio Galloni, Vinous (01/20)

Benoit, the current winemaker, is the 14th generation of the Droin family to be involved in the wine trade – this lineage goes back to at least 1620! He is putting his stamp on this address by dialling back on his father’s (Jean-Paul’s) use of new oak and each wine now receives the treatment that its terroir can handle, e.g. the village Chablis is fermented and matured in tank whereas the grand cru Les Clos receives 50% barrel fermentation and maturation. However, please note that the percentage of new oak here is limited to 10%. So, if you enjoy Chardonnay in the hands of a top exponent, not to mention that distinctive minerality which is attributable to Kimmeridgean limestone from the Jurassic period, these great wines of terroir are for you!

  • Laurent Tribut Chablis Premier Cru Beauroy 2020

    £47.95

“The 2020 Chablis 1er Cru Beauroy bursts from the glass with aromas of apricot, peach and citrus mingled with fresh bread, toasted almonds and oyster shell. Medium to full-bodied, ample but precise, with tangy acids and a saline finish, it’s another lovely wine from the Tribut family. 92-94 points
