  • Travaglini Gattinara 2020

    £33.95

“The 2020 Gattinara is a very pretty wine in the classically austere style that is such a signature here. Crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, mint and rose petal lend lovely complexity throughout. This is beautifully done, not to mention a real charmer. Drinking window: 2024-2035. 92 points

These are some of the best wines I have ever tasted from Travaglini. That’s significant not just for the winery, but also for the region. Travaglini is by far the most important and visible estate in Alto Piemonte. Travaglini’s production accounts for 50% of the volume of the entire Gattinara appellation. That means visitors traveling throughout the region are more likely to encounter a Travaglini Gattinara in shops or restaurant lists than any other wine. The style remains rigorously classic. Perhaps the 2018 and 2019 vintages have helped elevate these wines. Time will tell. Hopefully, these new releases are a sign of a newfound level of quality. That would be terrific news for a region that desperately needs more benchmark producers.”

  • Travaglini Gattinara Riserva 2018

    £47.95

“The 2018 Gattinara Riserva is terrific. It offers up generous notes of macerated cherry, spice, leather, tobacco, incense and dried herbs. Complex and beguiling in the glass, with tons of nuance, the 2018 also holds considerable potential for the future. Drinking window: 2026-2043. 94 points

  • Travaglini Gattinara Tre Vigne 2019

    £47.95

“The 2019 Gattinara Tre Vigne is another attractive wine in this range. It is done in a more forward style than the other wines in the lineup, presenting a touch more new oak sweetness. Macerated cherry, kirsch, new leather, herbs and a kiss of oak all grace this supple, wonderfully expressive Gattinara. Best of all, the 2019 will drink well with minimal cellaring. It’s a wine of pure pleasure that retains a link to the classic style favored here. Drinking window: 2025-2037. 93 points
