“Here’s a new discovery from Puglia that comes bursting out of the gate at breakneck speed. I was floored by the Primitivo di Manduria. To be honest, the wine initially had me scratching my head but that was before I succumbed to its enormity. Indeed, this is a b.i.g. wine with alcohol, extract and residual sugar readings that must be off the charts. Yet, throughout my tasting, I couldn’t help but notice the artisanal quality of the wine, its finely polished character and the careful work that clearly went into making it. Reaching balance in a wine this extreme must be near impossible, but this tiny boutique producer has managed to reach that goal.”
