“The 2017 Vinsanto Riserva is intense, mixing tropical citrus with apricots, pine shavings and lifting hints of mint. lt washes across the palate with the weight of nectar, showcasing honeyed inner florals and candied pineapple, a cascade of autumnal spices and dried nectarines. Dramatically long and staining, it leaves the senses surprisingly refreshed, while rich notes of almond paste, white raisins and butterscotch linger as an air of mint maintains freshness. 80% Sangiovese, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. I was not surprised to see Capezzana excel with the warm but beautifully balanced 2021 vintage. Capezzana releases their Riservas later than many of their neighbors. The 2021 Ghiaie della Furba, Carmignano Trefiano Riserva and Carmignano Villa di Capezzana are all fantastic editions that I expect to age gracefully over the next 15 to 20 years, if not longer. Capezzana’s track record for longevity is undeniable, standing alongside Piaggia as a definitive benchmark for Carmignano. It is heartening to see both estates fostering the next generation of winemakers in the region. Finally, the Vinsanto Riserva is essential for any lover of sweet wines. Exceptionally rich and intense with salty-sweet flavors of mind-blowing complexity, this is unequivocally one of the finest Vin Santos in Italy today.”
