“The dark red 2021 Parcela Los Nidos was produced mostly with Barbera and Bonarda and then other red varieties. The full clusters were 100% foot trodden and had a long maceration. This is more powerful and riper than the majority of the other reds, with 13.5% alcohol (high in this context), and it’s more mainstream, with berries, herbs and a volatile touch, with some rusticity and abundant grainy tannins. This is still very young and undeveloped, and it’s going to need a little more time in bottle. 1,200 bottles were filled after maturing in a 1,000-liter concrete egg for eight months. They didn’t do a 2020 here. This has more concentration than the 2019 I tasted last time. Drink: 2024-2028. 92 points
They are planting more vineyards with the Listán Prieto material from the old vines and some Moscatel Blanco. They have five hectares and will plant two or three more. They built a new winery that went into production for the 2021 harvest. They now produce 50,000 bottles from the new IGs from the Valle de Calingasta, in the province of San Juan, Barreal and Hilario.“
