CVNE La Virgen 2020

In Stock

“The 2020 La Virgen, also known as Pagos de Viña Real, is 100% Tempranillo sourced from a single vineyard planted in San Cristébal, Labastida, Rioja. Aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, 50% new, this purple-red wine unfolds with aromas of elder and violets over an herbal, garrigue-like layer. Dry and compact, the firm and primary palate leads to a fairly savage expression with a lasting chalky texture. The 2020 is distinctive and disheveled. Drinking window: 2024-2040. 94 points

Part of the CVNE Winery group, Viña Real is one of the most modern wineries in Rioja, boasting cutting-edge design and technology and producing, on average, one million bottles every year. Situated in Laserna, Rioja Alavesa, they primarily cultivate Alavesa grapes. Eva de Benito oversees winemaking, who, in keeping with the tradition established in the 1920s, crafts Riojan reds with a focus on aging while emphasizing the region’s freshness and chalky texture. They also bottle a few innovative lines, such as Bakeder, highlighting the qualities of the Laguardia vineyards.”
