Goisot Bourgogne Cotes d’Auxerre Corps de Garde Blanc 2022

“The 2022 Bourgogne Cotes d’Auxerre Corps de Garde is taken from vat and due for racking into barrels after my July visit for bottling in the winter. It has an attractive bouquet with fennel and hazelnut aromas, discrete at first but gaining intensity with time. The palate is well-balanced with a smooth texture, lemon verbena mixed with white tea notes, dovetailing into a delicately spiced, quite pepper finish. Superb. Drinking window: 2024-2032. 89-91 points

Just as Richoux is the standout producer in the neighboring village of Irancy, so Goisot is in Saint-Bris. I have waxed lyrical about these wines for several years now. It is always a pleasure to see winemaker Jean-Hugues Goisot, who had recently racked his 2022 reds at the time of my visit. He told me that he commenced the picking on August 29 and will conduct a slightly longer barrel maturation. These are quite brilliant expressions of Saint-Bris, cut from a totally different cloth to Chablis since the grape variety is Sauvignon Blanc rather than Chardonnay. Goisot’s cuvées from Irancy always prove that he is a dab hand at reds as well as whites.”
