Henri Billiot Cuvee Millesime Grand Cru 2014

In Stock

“The 2014 Brut Millésime is a beautiful wine that shows the Billiot style off to great effect. Fresh, vibrant and also wonderfully deep, the 2014 hits all the right notes. Red plum, kirsch, flowers, mint and sweet spice all come together in a Champagne that marries tension with volume. That’s a pretty appealing combination in my book. Dosage is 0.6 grams per liter. Disgorged: January 12, 2022. Drinking window: 2022-2027. 93 points

Billiot has been through some ups and downs, so it is great to see these wines showing so well. The one exception is the 2015 Brut Millésime, which shows the shortcomings of the year. All the other wines are very fine. Billiot farms five hectares of vines in Ambonnay spread across 18 small parcels. The wines are all done in tank, with no malolactic fermentation, except the Cuvée Julie, fermented in oak. Speaking of the Cuvée Julie, it is terrific in this release, as is the flagship Cuvée Laetitia, Billiot’s 60% Pinot Noir/40% Chardonnay Champagne, which is a solera-like blend of vintages 2016 back to 1983.”
