“The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino dark and rich, showing ripe black cherries and plum, with layers of haunting florals, exotic brown spice and smoky mineral tones. On the palate, a wave of polished textures wash across the senses, ushering in juicy black cherry with sweet herbal and floral undertones, with zesty spices and vibrant acidity adding a refreshing quality. The finish is long and remarkably fresh, an example of how the warmth of Sant’Angelo in Colle can be tempered by a deft hand, as fine tannins come forward, balanced by mouthwatering acidity and punctuated by residual pure red berry fruit. It’s a wine that’s very easy to love, with near term appeal and potential for the cellar. Drinking window: 2020-2034. 94 points

Lisini is located in the warm, dry region of Sant’Angelo in Colle, and it continues to demonstrate that long-standing tradition, terroir and the purity of Sangiovese trumps all else in Montalcino. It’s here that they farm 20 hectares, all dedicated to Sangiovese, in calcareous soils with elevations ranging from 300 to 400 meters. The combination of elevation and drying winds, which funnel up from the Maremma, are responsible for the amazing balance of power and finesse that this family is able to achieve throughout their portfolio of Brunello. In the winery, fermentation takes place in glass-lined cement and stainless steel, followed by long macerations and aging entirely in large Slavonian oak.”
