Michelini i Mufatto La Cautiva Malbec 2021

In Stock

“The 2021 Malbec La Cautiva hails from La Cautiva vineyard, planted 1,500 meters above sea level in Gualtallary, Uco Valley. It was fermented with whole clusters. Purple in color, the nose presents violets, sage, lavender, crushed plums and hints of cinnamon from the stems. Dry, lean and juicy, the restrained palate flows with a compact feel, becoming even tauter due to its chalky texture. This high-altitude Malbec is compact yet almost velvety, offering a flavorful experience. Drinking window: 2025-2036. 96 points”

“The family of Gerardo Michelini, Michelini i Mufatto, work with grapes from 27 hectares of vineyards (mostly) in the department of Tupungato in Mendoza and produce 90,000 bottles (in this project). The whites are destemmed and ferment and mature in foudre with gross lees for one year, and then they mature in used 500-liter barrels for a further year, sometimes with a veil of yeast. They like to use stems for Malbec, as the stems give freshness and make the wines feel dry (versus the natural tendency of Malbec to show jammy). They ferment in a gentle way in open-top vats with shorter macerations in warmer years and mature in neutral barrels or oak foudres. The reds have a Burgundian structure, with a regional wine from Tupungato, a village wine from Gualtallary and then lieu-dit and single-plot Malbecs.”
