Tenuta di Biserno 2011

“The 2011 Biserno is dark, round and supple with plenty of depth. Dark red and black fruit, smoke, tobacco and incense meld together in a broad, expansive wine endowed with tons of depth and volume. Although darker, richer and more concentrated then the Pino, the Biserno is not a better wine, just different in style. Far from an easygoing 2011, the Biserno is going to need time to fully blossom. I can’t wait to see how this ages. Drinking window: 2015-2026. 93 points.

Antinori is one of the royal families of Tuscany, with a track record going back 26 generations all the way back to the 1400s. Lodovico Antinori has pretty much seen it all, including the birth of Sassicaia, his cousin’s wine and the first great Tuscan red from the coast. In the mid 1980s Antinori founded Ornellaia, which in turn established its own reputation as a world-class esate. Antinori’s newest project aims to recreate that spirit of adventure. The wines are rich and textured, stylistically closer to Ornellaia than Sassicaia, but very much with their own personalities. Compared to his brother Piero, who cuts a more statesmanlike figure, Lodovico Antinori leans towards the entrepreneurial, risk-taking side of things. As the saying goes; no guts, no glory.”
