“The 2021 Lessona is a wine of real character. Macerated cherry, cedar, spice, tobacco, mint and dried flowers give this mid-weight Lessona lovely aromatic presence. This is a very mixed set of wines from Sella. It’s hard to say if the issues afflicting these wines are mostly in the vineyard or in the cellar, but the wines are all over the place. Many of them are dried out and lacking complexity. Sella was one of the first estates I visited in Alto Piemonte. I have many fond memories of exceptional wines here. I hope the Sella family can return to their glory days, as Alto Piemonte needs its most visible producers to be at the top of their game.”
