Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa 2015

Quinta do Crasto Vinha Maria Teresa 2015

Availability: Out of stock

"The 2015 Vinha Maria Teresa, a field blend from very old vines (100 years), was aged for 20 months in new oak (90% French, 10% American). It comes in at 14.6% alcohol. To my mind, this is usually Crasto's best bottling when it appears. So, too, this issue. This is a pretty terrific vintage for it. It takes all the virtues of the vintage—elegance, freshness, lifted fruit, intensity of flavor—and adds concentration, a serious backbone and a long, tasty finish. The first taste is all about sex appeal—as Crasto's wines go, this is the high-personality offering—but then the oak gets pulled in and you realize that the structure is exceptional too. It does not lack finesse either. You can approach this young, but it would be a mistake even in 2020. This has the potential to continue developing and improving for a decade or more. It may last for 30 years, maybe more. Give it a few years to come around. I tend to be conservative in such things, but this has a good chance of earning an uptick in score. It will be released in October 2018. There were just 5,383 bottles produced, plus some large-format bottles. Drink: 2020-2045. 96+ points

Crasto had a fine 2015 vintage. The reds are fresh and friendly, wines that are easy to drink yet able to age. It's a good group."
