"The 2016 Pinot Noir (Russian River Valley) is an attractive wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Bright red berry fruit, floral notes, earthiness and gamy notes all fill out in this fleshy, racy Pinot Noir. The inclusion of 25% whole clusters adds brightness, but the 2016 is done in the juicy, giving style that is a Ramey signature with Pinot. Drinking window: 2020-2030. 92 points.

In 2012, Ramey purchased its first vineyard, Westside Farms, on Westside Road in Healdsburg across from Williams Selyem. “It took us six years to get a permit,” David Ramey says, but now work is underway on a new winery and tasting room. The 75-acre property includes 42 acres of vines. Well known for their single-vineyard Chardonnays, Ramey will take a new approach to the Pinot Noir vines at Westside Farms, making broader appellation wines before narrowing in on single sites. “We are pinpointing areas within the vineyard to see what’s worthy of bottling as single-vineyard designates,” he says. Although Ramey makes about 35,000 cases of wine a year, they are still family owned, and David’s children plan to take over the winery from their father in the future."
