Tasca d'Almerita Il Tascante 2014

Tasca d'Almerita Il Tascante 2014

Availability: Out of stock

"Tascante's 2014 Sicilia Nerello Mascalese Il Tascante offers two distinct sides. On the one hand, it shows a lighthearted and delicate approach with wild berry, cassis and rose petal. On the other hand, the wine extends far beyond primary aromas to offer more complex layers of cola, brimstone and pencil shaving. There are light layers of balsam spice and leather as well. The finish closes with firm astringency that could use another year of bottle aging. Drink: 2018-2026. 93 points

Sicily's historic Tasca d'Almerita owns Tascante (which stands for Tasca plus the word Etna spelled backwards). Originally from Palermo and the Western side of Sicily, the Tasca d'Almerita family nows owns 62 hectares on Etna, with 33 hectares planted to vines. They farm in three Contrade: Contrada Sciaranova (in Radazzo), Contrada Piano Dario (also in Randazzo) and Contrada Marchesa (in Passopisciaro). These sites share common elements like dark, fertile volcanic soils with a high presence of organic material. The vineyards are surrounded by ancient drywalls made with volcanic rock dating back to the late 19th Century. For now, Tascante's wines are labeled under the Sicilia DOC instead of the Etna DOC."
