"(made entirely from Côte Brune fruit and raised in 50% new oak barrels) Inky ruby. Ripe blackberry and cherry aromas are complemented by peppery spice, olive and pungent floral accents. Supple, appealingly sweet and deeply concentrated black and blue fruit flavors become more energetic and spicier with air, and a smoky mineral element adds back-end lift and cut. Chewy tannins add grip to a very long, floral-dominated finish that leaves a subtle licorice note behind. 92-94 points

In the opinion of Yves Cuilleron "2016 is probably most interesting down in Cornas because the wines have a freshness that's not typical" of this region. The wines are reliably "bigger, darker and more tannic" than those from other parts of the northern Rhône but in 2016 "there's energy and mineral character almost like in Côte-Rôtie and that's very rare," he pointed out. Cuilleron feels that way about the north as a whole in 2016, while he doesn’t admit it, I have the feeling he holds a slight preference for 2015 because "it's a vintage where you find a rare balance of ripeness and acidity and the wines will age and improve for a really long time."
