Yves Cuilleron Cote-Rotie Les Terres Sombres 2014

Yves Cuilleron Cote-Rotie Les Terres Sombres 2014

Availability: Out of stock

"(made entirely from Côte Brune fruit and aged in 60% new oak for 18 months): Vivid purple. Black and blue fruit preserves, potpourri, olive and woodsmoke on the deeply perfumed nose. Coats the palate with blackberry and cherry compote flavors enlivened by juicy acidity and a hint of smoky minerals. The mineral quality adds lift and cut to the dark fruit-dominated finish, which clings with superb energy and smooth, slow-building tannins. 92-94 points.

What makes 2013 stand out, in Yves Cuilleron's opinion, is “the bright acidity and mineral character of the wines, both white and red." In contrast to the 2014s and 2012s, the '13s "are more suited to serious consumers who buy wines to cellar rather than drink young for intense fruit.” For those who do like their wines on the youthful and fruit-forward side, there'll be plenty to like here when the '14s are released late this year, especially since Cuilleron continues to ratchet back the tannin levels of red wines "so they're not so strict that they demand patience.""
