  • A Pie de Tierra Cruce del Collado 2014

A Pie de Tierra Cruce del Collado 2014

    £64.95

“The new kid on the block is the single-vineyard 2024 Cruce del Collado from a plot in the village of El Real de San Vicente, one of the Méntrida villages considered as proper Gredos, with more influence from the mountains. It has old, head-pruned, dry-farmed vines on deep sandy soils. The wine reached 14% alcohol, a low pH of 3.3 and six grams of acidity. It fermented with foot-trodden, full clusters with a long maceration of 60 to 65 days and matured in a 500-liter barrel. It has a slightly deeper color and a more reductive nose, stonier, with freshness, volume and depth. It has fine-grained, classical granite tannins and is serious and harmonious. It’s very good indeed. 600 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025. Drink: 2025-2033. 96+ points

A Pie de Tierra is the project from two young enthusiasts and friends, David Galiles and Aitor Paul. Galiles has roots and family vines in Méntrida and works some 20 hectares, and they have rented a new vineyard in the village of El Real de San Vicente, from which they produced a new wine. They are very happy with the 2024 harvest, which was marked by the frost from April that reduced the crop, but the second generation of grapes slowed the ripeness. They harvested late after some welcome rain in late August that hydrated the soils. In any case, it’s a project on its way up, with each vintage better than the previous one. They used more of their own grapes, and they now do 30,000 bottles. In 2025, they produced a white with Garnacha Blanca grapes.”

  • A Pie de Tierra Ronca de Mazalba 2024

A Pie de Tierra Ronca de Mazalba 2024

    £54.95

“The 2024 Ronca de Mazalba comes from a single 1.3-hectare vineyard that was planted with Garnacha 40 years ago on sandy soils with silt and clay and a south-facing exposition cushioned by the influence of a water stream nearby. The frost was less damaging here than in other vineyards. It fermented with 100% full clusters and indigenous yeasts and had a long fermentation of 65 days, with very light pump-overs, just keeping the cap wet. The élevage was in two used 500-liter French oak barrels and lasted 10 months. The wine comes in at 13.5% alcohol, with a pH of 3.4 and very good balance. It’s elegant and perfumed, following the profile of its siblings, delicate and with an ethereal quality. There were 1,200 bottles in this first vintage. It was bottled in August 2025. Drink: 2025-2032. 96+ points

  • Sale! Daniel Landi Cantos del Diablo 2019

Daniel Landi Cantos del Diablo 2019

Original price was: £94.95.Current price is: £66.95.

“The bottled version of the 2019 Cantos del Diablo comes from a warm, Mediterranean vintage. It’s a little more fruit-driven, ripe at 15% alcohol but keeping the freshness. The 2019 tannin is still there, even after one year in foudre and an additional six months in concrete to polish the tannins, a practice common in other wines from the vintage. The profile is a little earthier, a little more Italian if you like but with the combination of the floral and Mediterranean notes. It’s the more Mediterranean of the 2019s, developing a note of esparto grass in the glass. So, this was bottled later, in July 2021. 1,595 bottles were produced. I’d wait a little longer for this. Drink: 2023-2029. 94 points

The wines from Dani Landi are produced by Comando G in the facilities of Comando G, but the different label reflects just the ownership of the vineyards. So, I always taste the wines together, and I compare them with the wines from Comando G. Starting with the 2021 vintage, the wines from El Real de San Vicente will be transferred to a new project called Vinicola Mentridana, where Daniel Landi will share responsibilities with his friend Curro Bareño, both born in the village. And there will be a new village wine from there, called Mentridano, produced with their family vineyards. So, 2020 is the last vintage for Uvas de la Ira and for Cantos del Diablo here.”

    Viticola Mentridana Canto Platero 2024

    £69.95

“There is a new red, the 2024 Canto Platero, selected from part of one of the vineyards in the village of El Real de San Vicente, which in the past was vinified by Dani Landi under the name The End (the idea was to call it El Fin del Mundo—the end of the world—which is the name of the plot). It’s a north-facing plot at 720 meters in altitude overlooking the Tiétar Valley, the latest-ripening plot, planted 60 to 70 years ago on silty and sandy soils with very small quartz pebbles and iron. It fermented in concrete with full clusters and indigenous yeasts and had a very soft extraction, then it matured exclusively in concrete. It is my favorite of their wines I tasted this year, with a reductive character that I love, with a stony feeling, perfumed and with elegant aromas of dried rose petals and wild herbs. It has a medium-bodied palate with very fine, chalky tannins, with precision and focus, depth and complexity and a long, dry finish. It’s like a super Uvas de la Ira. 2,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2025. Drink: 2025-2033. 95 points

Vitícola Mentridana is a family and friends project from Dani Landi (Comando G) and Curro Bareño (Fedellos) with family vineyards and some of the brands that used to belong to Landi. They have some 16 hectares in the villages of Méntrida and Real de San Vicente, some owned, some rented, all worked by them organically. They are going to start a soil study with Chilean expert Pedro Parra, and they hope to increase the precision of the wines. Production is around 40,000 bottles, but 2024 was very short because of frost, mildew and bad fruit setting…”

  • Viticola Mentridana Cantos del Diablo 2022

Viticola Mentridana Cantos del Diablo 2022

    £95.00

“The single-vineyard Garnacha 2022 Cantos del Diablo is from a plot in a lieu-dit that names the wine, the highest vineyard in the appellation Méntrida, in the village of El Real de San Vicente, a cooler place with better conditions to produced balanced wines and soils with a high content of silt. It has a sensation of high ripeness, notes of prunes and dark cherries with a dusty, wet chalk hint. It has 14.5% alcohol and integrated acidity, concentrated. It has abundant tannins, slightly dusty with a slight rusticity, which seems to be the signature of the year. 2,335 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2024, later than the other wines from the project, as this has a longer élevage of two winters. Drink: 2024-2032. 93 points

There’s a new white from Vitícola Mentridana in 2023 produced with 10-year-old Garnacha Blanca from Méntrida. I tasted wines from 2022 and 2023, two warm years, but 2023 was a shorter summer (less accumulated days of high temperatures but high spikes). At El Real de San Vicente, they had a little rain before both harvest, but in Méntrida, it only rained in 2023. The 2023s are pale, less concentrated, more ethereal wines despite the longer macerations, and they have a little lower alcohol. They are in the process of certifying their 15 hectares of vineyards, 50% in Méntrida and the other half in El Real de San Vicente, but they purchase the white grapes from a vineyard they work on behalf of the owner.”
